Company History
In 1896 Nicholas Lawlor founded Lawlor's sporting Goods by selling not only sporting
goods but Harley Davidson Motorcycles as well. Since then, Lawlor's has become the
oldest family owned sporting goods store in the country.
In 1921 upon his fathers' death, Nicholas's son John F. Lawlor took over control.
John F. Lawlor elected to discontinue selling Harley Davidson Motorcycles due to
the depression becoming Nebraska's first team dealer selling to High Schools and
Colleges including the Nebraska football team. In addition to sporting goods and
team sales, Lawlor's was a hardware store.
In the 1960's Lawlor's evolved into a small department store selling everything
from Schwinn Bicycles to household appliances. Later in 1975 John M. Lawlor assumed
control converting Lawlor's into strictly a sporting goods store. Eventually, Lawlor's
opened up the first Midwest ski shop.
In 1982, John G. Lawlor became president and expanded to four stores in both Omaha
and Lincoln Nebraska. In 2001, under control of Pat Lawlor, Lawlor's closed its
retail stores devoting full attention to its custom sportswear division specializing
in Maverick and Husker Sportswear in addition to team uniforms.
